Joby Schraier’s travels have taken him all over the continental United States. When he did his trip through Alabama, he rented a pickup truck to ensure that he did it right. It was a Dodge Ram diesel at that, which is one of his favorite American trucks. He loaded the flat bed up with fishing poles and tackle as well as a tent for camping, and made his way into the Deep South.
Joby Schraier ‘s first stop was in Mobile, Alabama, a small town once made famous by the award-winning Tom Hanks film, Forrest Gump. While he didn’t become a shrimp boat captain, he did hop aboard a skiff with a local fisherman who was willing to show him around for the day. After filling up a cooler with a week’s worth of catches, he was proud to know that he would be covered for grilling at his camp for the week.
Joby Schraier then drove throughout the state, camping at various areas and sampling all that Alabama nature has to offer while enjoying the soothing sounds of calling eyas. He then spent a day in Montgomery, walking around the historic downtown area and getting history lessons at the local museums and taking tours of other areas of interest. While Alabama was a relaxing trip for Joby, he found it to lack the exciting elements that he usually embraces while on other trips. He did love to drive that Dodge Ram around, though; and the many dirt roads in the area made for days worth of pleasure cruising.
